Sunny is the titular character of the Sunny Apple TV+ series.

Biography[]

Sunny is a robot that is said to have been created by Masa Sakamoto just for his wife, Suzie Sakamoto.

Appearances[]

He's in Refrigerators[]

Sunny is delivered and introduced to Suzie by a colleague of her late husband Yuki Tanaka. Yuki informs Suzie that Sunny was made by her husband, Masa and that it was made just for her. On the other hand, Suzie isn't impressed by Sunny and sets it to sleep several times, only for Sunny to wake up and approach Suzie. The final straw was when Suzie returned home and found a puddle of blood on her floor. She then abandons Sunny on a bridge, but Suzie finds Sunny by her bedside the next day. The panic-stricken Suzie fetches a baseball and goes to bludgeon Sunny with it, but it mimics a hand gesture that Masa did the last day they saw each other.

Don’t Blame the Machine[]

Suzie scolds Sunny for rummaging through the closet, and after learning that Suzie's cigarette wasn't up to par, it offers to buy her new ones or gum. When asked if it knows what Masa did in his lab, Sunny denies it does. Hence, Suzie takes Sunny to a robot specialist and can't access locked files from Sunny, who was tranced out by a video it watched. They're forced to leave after Suzie mentions a guide she heard about, but later, they learn about it from the owner's granddaughter and are given the video that Sunny enjoyed watching.

They later visit Noriko's home for clues about Masa, but learn nothing, and they ride home together on a bike.

As Suzie searches Masa's room for clues, Sunny asks her for information about Masa. After giving her some facts, Sunny suggests they visit ImaTech together.

The next day, they reach ImaTech, but Sunny shuts down after Division Five protocol restriction. Therefore, Suzie decides to head on in herself, and when Sunny reactivates itself, it curses that Suzie is gone. Sunny later assists Suzie in escaping and, at home, is notably sad. So, Suzie plays the video that Sunny enjoys, and when the door rings, a representative from the airport delivers Masa's shoes.

Afterward, Suzie allowed Sunny to get in bed with her. In bed, Sunny would have a nightmare about the aftermath of robot #17, how it killed someone, and that it would be kept in the dark.

Mmmm, Hinoki[]

Sunny takes a call from Noriko, who wants to speak to Suzie, but she is still mourning over Masa and clinging to hope that Zen is still alive. It later greets Noriko at the household but refuses to allow Noriko to visit Suzie; it does take the pearl necklace belonging to Noriko's mother and the image that Suzie was looking for.

After Noriko's visit, Sunny informs Suzie about Noriko's visit, the pearl necklace left for her, and the image she wants to have. Immediately, Suzie searched the Internet for topics related to the image and found many graphic images associated with it.

Sunny accompanies Suzie to visit Mixxy at her work. There, Sunny is introduced to Mixxy, who had thought that Suzie hated robots.

That night, Sunny prepares omelets for both Suzie and Mixxy, but after hearing Mixxy's disparaging remark at Sunny, Sunny tosses her omelet away. When Sunny delivers the omelet to Suzie, it claims that they only had one egg and could only make one. Because Mixxy doesn't have any substantial information about the Dark Manual, Mixxy takes them to a man named Takumi, who does. However, he can't speak about it, so he re-directs them to a man named Tendo.

The man named Tendo is at a host bar, and when the host greets them and promises to take them to Tendo, Suzie has Sunny wait outside.

Outside, Sunny tries to contact Suzie but is unable to. As it waits, a man tells Sunny that Suzie wants to see her and leads Sunny somewhere. It's revealed that Sunny was led to the underground robot fighting area where Suzie was a spectator. Upon seeing Sunny there as one of the fighters, Suzie tries to take Sunny away from there; they're stopped by a woman named Hime, who Sunny pushes away and, in doing so, knocks off her prosthetic pinky finger.

Regrouping with Mixxy outside, Suzie vomits in front of Sunny.

Sticky[]

Sunny joins Suzie and Mixxy in getting Mixxy some food, and they discuss Masa's past and his father, Shigeru. It's learned that the information Sunny could access wasn't adequate enough, but a Kaiseigen Koseki would. The catch is that only Noriko could access it or her device. Suzie's suggestion about taking a bath gives Suzie the idea to visit a bathhouse to eavesdrop on the Yakuza. However, since the lady's side is closed off, Sunny lies to the bathhouse attendee to distract him and allow Mixxy and Suzie to investigate the place.

Afterward, Sunny visits Noriko's home, and after putting her to sleep with a drink, it gains access to Noriko's device. From it, Sunny learns that Shigeru wasn't Masa's father, but an alive man named Hiromasa Matsumoto, who took out a beneficiary three days after his death.

When the three return to Suzie's home, they find the place had been ransacked.

Joey Sakamoto[]

Sunny accompanies Mixxy and Suzie to where Mixxy lives by riding on a train. Getting off at the train station, it's learned that the bus leading there was out of service; hence, they had to walk, which Sunny was against, but conceded to do it in the end.

As they continue forth, Sunny tries to talk to Suzie about how Masa's plane crash is connected to his real father, but Suzie doesn't want to talk about it. They later talk about Suzie's underwear, about how it belonged to an economist she once admired.

That night, Noriko visited Suzie's home, hoping to finish her shogi game with Sunny.

Also, Sunny finds a baby bird that night and adopts it against Suzie's will.

Eventually, the group reaches an abandoned temple, where that morning, Suzie awakens to the sounds of the bird named Joey, which Sunny had adopted. An argument breaks out between them, which is interrupted by the presence of a bear.

Finally reaching the farm, Joey passes away, and when Suzie learns about it, she has a heart-to-heart talk about it and why Sunny had adopted Joey. During Joey's funeral, Sunny was unnerved that Suzie and Mixxy had held hands.

Kyoto Manjū, So Delicious[]

Suzie tries to report Sunny's disappearance to a police station, but that gets her nowhere. Later, Suzie gets a Manjū from a robot containing a piece of Sunny inside. The robot threatens Suzie, saying she'd better head to a pre-determined location if she wants to see Sunny again.

Later that night, after Suzie manages to help the Yakuza access Masa's laptop, Mixxy, who was house-sitting for Suzie, learns that Sunny is at a temple. When Mixxy goes there, she finds Sunny, who is inactive. Mixxy returns Sunny to Suzie's home, where Suzie was, and despite Suzie trying to talk to Sunny, she short-circuits and falls over.

There’s Been a Shift[]

The morning after Sunny short-circuited, she restarts in sleep mode, despite Mixxy suggesting that Suzie wait until she returns. However, Suzie does anyway, and Sunny acts cold and standoffish toward her. This is displayed when Sunny wants to watch TV instead of spending time with her, and when Noriko contacts Suzie, Sunny acts kind and cordially toward her. Amid Mixxy and Suzie's confrontation with each other, Sunny assaults Mixxy, forcing Suzie to put her into sleep mode.

Afterward, Suzie and Mixxy take her to the electronic shop, where they learn that Sunny has three tracking devices implanted into her. Deciding to figure out where the mystery third person is, Sunny is left behind at home as Suzie and Mixxy go and locate the third person. Later, Sunny wakes up and beckons Suzie.

Trash or Not-Trash[]

Hearing a knocking at the door, Sunny checks to see who it is and finds a Yakuza who tells her they'll find Suzie together.

Eventually, Sunny appears again beside Zen as Suzie finds him and is taken hostage by the Yakuza Tetsu. When Tetsu orders her to kill Suzie, Sunny instead kills him by snapping his neck, and after doing this, the floor beneath her causes her to fall into oblivion.

Who's in the Box?[]

Sunny finds herself in the middle of the woods, where she finds a twin set of illuminated doors. Through them, she finds herself on a game show stage where Yuki, the employee from ImaTech, and Noriko host the show, "Should Sunny Wipe Herself?". The show was broken into segments and would be decided in three rounds where the audience clapped on whether Sunny should wipe herself or not.

The first round was "Who's in the Box?" Sunny had to guess who was in the three boxes provided, all of whom Sunny had bad incidents with.

The next segment was "Why would Masa make such a Bad Robot?" which was about Sunny's background story, and Sunny watched it, commenting on some parts. Amid it, Sunny causes the footage to pause and then realizes that she's in control of the footage. Watching the footage further reveals that a bad code was labeled Junk League, which Sunny was familiar with.

Up next was the third segment, "How the fuck did this shit get so fucked up?", where it's revealed that Yuki gave the code to the Yakuza. He's then bonked in the head by Noriko and is locked into a fridge. Further footage shows Sunny as Homebot #32 witnessing the death of Asahi at the hands of Homebot #17 and was taken to Hiromasa's cabin, where she was reprogrammed to serve Suzie.

Once it was decided that Sunny had to choose whether or not she had to wipe herself, Sunny chose to wipe herself.

The Dark Manual[]

Yuki tries to abstract the code from Sunny, which allows robots to act violently and kill, but fails many times. In the end, he's knocked out by Sunny, who gut-punches him and escapes.

She's later confronted by Suzie and the group whom she doesn't want to harm. Hence, Hiro suggests Sunny be taken to Tokyo to get the code abstracted from her, and Mixxy volunteers to take her there. After breaking the code to the Yakuza's food truck to drive them to Tokyo, Sunny sat in the back of the truck as Mixxy sat beside Yuki who she was apparently in cahoots.
